The Gurdjieff Foundation of British Columbia (BC) is a non-profit society based in Vancouver to study and practise the teachings of G.I. Gurdjieff.
Established in 1971, the Gurdjieff Foundation of BC is closely linked to the Gurdjieff Foundation of California in San Francisco. Both groups were under the guidance of Lord John Pentland, a direct pupil of Mr. Gurdjieff and a leader of the Foundations in North America. Close links are also maintained with other Foundation groups in Canada, London, Paris and New York.
Practices of this teaching are centered on a work with attention. The forms of the Work include group exchanges based on personal observations, sitting meditation, practical work together and the unique practice of the Movements, or Sacred Dances, set to music composed by Gurdjieff and Thomas de Hartmann. They provide the conditions to explore the awakening of Being and Presence.
