The Gurdjieff Foundation of British Columbia (BC) is a non-profiit society based in Vancouver to study and practise the teachings of G.I. Gurdjieff.
Established in 1971, the Gurdjieff Foundation of BC is closely linked to the Gurdjieff Foundation of California in San Francisco. Both groups were under the guidance of Lord John Pentland, a direct pupil of Mr. Gurdjieff and a leader of the Foundations in North America. Close links are also maintained with other Foundation groups in Canada, New York, London, Paris, Geneva and Torino.
Practices of this teaching are centered on a work with attention. The forms of the Work include concentrated study of the ideas brought by Gurdjieff; group exchanges based on personal efforts and observations, in an atmosphere of ever deepening listening; sitting meditation, alone and collective; practical work together on crafts, construction, cooking etc; and the unique practice of the Movements, or Sacred Dances, set to music composed by Gurdjieff and Thomas de Hartmann. These interrelated forms provide conditions to explore the awakening of Being and Presence in our lives.
Attention: a sacred energy coming into me. Be sensitive to it. Recognize again and again that it is there
